Every team you can face, from Brock to the Elite Four, with the type each one leans on, the boost the game gives it and the badge on offer. The boost is the real difficulty setting here: the gyms are not balanced against each other, they are ordered.
| # | Team | Leader | Types | Boost | Badge |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Pewter Boulders | Brock | Rock | -3 | Boulder |
| 2 | Cerulean Cascades | Misty | Water | -2 | Cascade |
| 3 | Vermilion Thunder | Lt. Surge | Electric | -1 | Thunder |
| 4 | Celadon Rainbows | Erika | Grass | 0 | Rainbow |
| 5 | Fuchsia Ninjas | Koga | Poison | +1 | Soul |
| 6 | Saffron Psychics | Sabrina | Psychic | +2 | Marsh |
| 7 | Cinnabar Volcanoes | Blaine | Fire | +2 | Volcano |
| 8 | Viridian Quakes | Giovanni | Ground | +3 | Earth |
| E4 | Indigo Elite | The Elite Four | IceFightingGhostDragon | +4 | — |
Each gym carries a rating modifier applied to its players. Brock runs at −3, Giovanni at +3, and the Elite Four at +4. That is the entire ladder: the rosters are themed around a type, and the boost decides whether that theme arrives as a challenge or as a wall.
It also means the gym draft matters. A team built to beat Brock — fast, perimeter oriented — will struggle against Giovanni's Ground types, which punish exactly that shape. In a franchise, build for the middle of the ladder and adjust for the last two weeks rather than optimising for the first.
These are the types the game's own chart says are strong against that gym's primary type. Type only decides contact — shoves and steals — so a counter is a defensive lever, not an automatic win.

The Elite Four is not one team but four types in one gauntlet — Ice, Fighting, Ghost, Dragon — at the highest boost in the game. No five-player lineup covers all four cleanly, which is why the Elite Four is where a balanced draft beats a specialised one. Bring at least two types that are strong against two of the four, and accept that one matchup will be a coin flip.
There is no badge for winning here, only the season. In Franchise it is the last week before the playoffs, so arrive with a healthy rotation rather than a spent one.
